In May 2020 the report Accelerating Wind Turbine Blade Circularity was published by WindEurope, EuCIA and Cefic. One of the outcomes is that European wide collaboration is key to collectively reduce waste and improve recycling in the wind industry. During this first Value Chain Meeting, Marylise Schmid, author of this report and Analysist Environment & Planning at WindEurope, will give an update on the market outlook of blade waste and existing regulatory framework for blade waste. Where Thomas Wegman, who was also part of the report, Marketing Manager EMEA at AOC and part of EuCIA sustainability panel, will talk more about the practical cases around composite recycling that are currently happening within the industry. Specifically: what is missing in the current circular initiatives to make feasible business cases out of it.
Since circularity within the wind industry is not only focused on turbine blades, speakers from different perspectives will share their thoughts and visions. Kristen Skelton, EHS & Sustainability Specialist at Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, will contribute to the presentations of WindEurope and EuCIA by sharing her point of view on circularity from a manufacturer perspective. Ilse van Andel, Sustainability Officer Procurement at Eneco, will share the initiatives and goals, but also the difficulties Eneco encounters, from a developer point of view.
Ports can play a central role within business cases around circular initiatives. Therefore, in addition, Joost Eenhuizen, Business Manager Maritime and Offshore Industry at the Port of Rotterdam, will share his point of view on a circular wind industry and the role of ports in that.
The aim of this first value chain meeting is to have an interactive session in which the whole industry can participate. Please use this as an opportunity to share your ambitions, visions and solutions and get inspired to transform into a circular economy.
We are looking forward to hearing the voice of the industry and shape the future of circular wind farms together!
